GoogMeetSlack vs Fireflies.ai: which meeting AI fits a Slack-first team?
Fireflies sends a bot named Fred into your meeting to record it. GoogMeetSlack reads Google Meet's own transcript and posts the summary into the Slack thread that scheduled the meeting. Here's how the two approaches compare on ownership, workflow, and cost.
Fireflies has been the default "AI notetaker" for a lot of teams for years. It works. It also joins your meeting as a participant, records the audio, and hands the transcript back through its own app. GoogMeetSlack takes a different route: no bot in the room, no audio stored anywhere, and the summary lands in the Slack thread where the meeting was born.
Both are legitimate approaches. The choice comes down to where the meeting lives afterwards and whether you're willing to have a third-party bot sit in every call.
The short version

| Meeting platforms | Google Meet only | Google Meet, Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Webex |
| Pricing model | Per workspace | Per seat |
| Free tier | Unlimited scheduling, 5 AI transcripts/mo | 800 min transcription/mo, limited features |

Where GoogMeetSlack wins
- No bot in your meetings. Nobody sees a "Fred from Fireflies has joined" message when they open the call. External guests never have to consent to a third-party recorder — the transcript comes from Google, which they already consented to when they clicked join.
- No audio storage. We literally never see the audio; Google gives us the finished transcript directly. If your compliance team treats meeting audio as regulated data, this matters. If they don't, it's still a smaller surface area to lose sleep over.
- Slack-native scheduling.
/meet 3pm tomorrow with @janecreates the meeting AND posts the join card AND — when it ends — attaches the summary to the same thread. Fireflies is a post-meeting tool; scheduling stays wherever you were doing it before. - Per-workspace pricing, not per-seat. A team of 20 pays the same as a team of 5 on our Team plan. Fireflies' Business plan runs $19/user/month; math is very different at scale.
- Free tier is genuinely free forever. Scheduling is unlimited on our free tier. Fireflies' free tier meters transcription minutes, so heavy users hit the wall fast.
Where Fireflies wins
- Works on Zoom and Teams too. If your team is mixed-platform, Fireflies' bot-recording model covers every call. GoogMeetSlack is Google Meet only, on purpose.
- Works without Google Workspace Business Standard. Meet's transcription API is a paid Workspace feature; Fireflies doesn't need it because Fred records directly.
- Speaker analytics and CRM sync. Fireflies has years of polish on speaker-time analytics, filler-word counts, sentiment, and native integrations into Salesforce/HubSpot. If you're a sales org running structured coaching on call recordings, that's a real feature.
- Standalone search across all meetings. Fireflies' web app lets you grep every transcript your team has ever produced. Ours puts each summary in its meeting's Slack thread; workspace-wide search relies on Slack's own search.
When to pick which
Pick GoogMeetSlack if:
- Your team schedules from Slack and lives in Slack. The meeting card, the join button, the summary, and the follow-up thread are all one lookup.
- You're already on Google Workspace Business Standard or higher and paying for Meet's transcription. No reason to double-pay for a second AI.
- You have compliance requirements that make third-party audio recording a hard no.
- Per-seat pricing on a 20+ person team is starting to feel silly.
Pick Fireflies if:
- Your calls span Google Meet, Zoom, and Teams. You need one AI that covers all three.
- You're on a Google plan that doesn't include Meet transcription, and you're not ready to upgrade.
- Your primary use case is sales-call coaching (analytics, CRM sync, keyword tracking) rather than team-meeting followups.
Both tools do what they say on the box. The most important question isn't "which AI is smarter" — every current-generation model is competent at meeting summaries. It's "where do your meetings actually go to die?" If the answer is "Slack threads that get lost," you want the tool that ships summaries back into those threads.
